One of the awards I won this year was a third place finish in the Home Machine Quilting Show in Utah. This was for my piece 'Flight Into Fantasy'. I didn't receive a cash prize but got a $150 gift certificate for Superior Threads. After much contemplation and deciding and re-deciding I finally ordered my threads that are pictured above. I have really enjoyed experimenting with these and have learned a lot about tension, needles and free motion quilting in general on my last 2 pieces. I love the threads and have never really felt any brand loyalty. I guess I have never really paid that much attention to thread before. The KingTut threads are 100% cotton and I love the low sheen finish they add. A couple of my favorite colors are Bulrushes, Old Giza and Sunflowers. The Rainbows are high sheen trilobol polyester and have been a little easier for me to get the tension right. Perfect Quilter is a heavier cotton and give a nice flat look. I really like the Pumpkin Spice color. This has turned out to be a great prize and has helped me focus on something that is important to my art. Do you have any favorite threads?

I also love the Rainbow's and King Tut's. That is all I use these days for quilting. I have almost no tension problems with them
My old Singer will take any kind of thread I want to put in it. In the past, I have mostly used white, gray , natural and black but am starting to really enjoy playing with different colors. I can't say I have a brand loyalty either but I will be watching the comments here to see what others like. Great question! And congrats on the great prize! Katy S
I just bought what seems like a truckload of Superior Rainbows and am eager to stitch with them for the first time.
My favs thoughis are King Tuts.
Thanks for letting me know your favs. As a followup question, what do you use in the bobbin. Same thread or something like bottom line?
I just use what is locally available= Sulky and Coats & Clarks. I buy the specialty threads from Sulky [clear poly and metalics especially]. They seem to work rather well. Only problem is continually cleaning my machine so that the poly slides easily and doesn't snag. I have no problems with the C&C duly duty. I used to use it alot until I was told I should use all cotton. I find that their cotton is easily shreaded if I sew too fast. I have a big stock of thread, so I'm probably just going to go with that instead of spending any money. If some money does come my way, I think I'll try King Tut's as everyone seems to rave about them.
