I finished the 50's skirt!

Here is a picture of my granddaughter Julia in her new 50's skirt. I finished it yesterday just in time for the sock hop that was tonight. Of course she did not want a poodle on her skirt but choose a cat instead. This was so much fun to make. I think part of it was the sentimental aspect since I made one for her Mommy when she was a little girl.

What is Your Experience?

I sent 2 quilts off to Dallas yesterday for the show in a couple of weeks. One quilt had a crease right down the middle from when it was returned from the last show it was in. Last year I entered quite a few shows and I have been really surprised and disappointed with the condition of some of my quilts when they get returned. I send most of my larger quilts rolled in a tube container and the smaller ones in a flat box. Since they usually have quilt a few embellishments they really don't fold very well. I have gotten them back several times just shoved and squished in the boxes with ugly creases to deal with.

I understand that taking down the quilts and repacking them to send, must be one of the worst parts of a show since it is over and all the excitement is done. Now I am not saying that this happens every time but enough to bother me. For the last show I entered last year I sent a note included with the quilts with specific packing instructions and one of the quilts came back folded when I specifically said do not fold. Maybe I am expecting too much but I have been a little spoiled by the return packaging from Houston where they really handle the quilts with care. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Could it be the packaging?

Just a Peek...

I have been very lax in my postings lately. Part of this is due to my habit of over committing myself and then waiting to the last minute to finish the things I've committed to. Last Friday I sent 4 quilts off the the Indiana Heritage Quilt Show and of course I was putting sleeves and labels on those. Then I decided that I had to create an entry for the 2010 Quilting Arts Calendar contests. I did finish this yesterday but came down with some sort of flu last night so that put a damper on my task for today which was to make a 50's skirt for my 6 yr old granddaughter for her sock hop day this Friday.......guess what I will be doing tomorrow.

One of My Favorite Movies - Dr. Zhivago

I just spent the last 3 1/2 watching one of my all time favorite movies on PBS. Dr. Zhivago is right up there with Lawrence of Arabia and 2001 a Space Odyssey. The first time I saw this was on a date when I was in high school in Mishawaka IN. I have seen it several times but probably not in 15 years. I can't believe how much I enjoyed it and how it still stands the test of time. No special effects, no blatant sex and no bloody gore just a great story told very well with incredible scenery.

ATC Swap

In December I posted pictures of my first ATCs that I had done for a swap. Well, the swap is complete and following are pictures of the seven great ATCs that I received. What a great way to learn new techniques and expand your art collection. This swap was organized by the Surface Design Yahoo Group. I had so much fun creating and receiving these that I just signed up for another swap.

This ATC made by Michelle Bonds. She used UTEE (Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel) on upostery fabric and pressed rubber stamps into it while it was still warm. She then painted it. Thank you Michelle.

This ATC was made by Jan Ziebol. Jan created this card using wool, silk & soluble bonding and stitched over that to hold everything in place. She then dissolved the bonding. Thanks so much, Jan!!

This ATC was made by Debbie Baker. Debbi painted crinkled tissue paper and then machine stitched it. She then sprayed it with spray webbing and added the copper swirl. I will have to get some of the spray webbing. Thank you Debbie.

This ATC was made by Aynsley McKay . Aynsley fused sheets of plastic bags together and then printed them with a rubber stamp. Great colors! Thanks Aynsley.

This ATC and the beautiful envelope were created by Marga Korioth. The envelope is painted and stitched shirt interfacing. The ATC is untreated canvas, paper & watercolors. The colors are just so beautiful, thanks Marga!

This ATC was created by Mags Roberts. Mags painted paper towels and then machine stitched them and rubbed a little Treasure Gold onto them to highlight some of the surfaces. Great effect and can't wait to give this a try. Thanks.

This ATC was created by Tracey Borders. Tracey wove stripes of ugly fabric together and then fused them to Peltex. She then painted them with white laytex paint and finally painted them with multilple colors of Golden's acrylics. Thanks Tracey.
